Andy Tucker is a stern Third-year student at Brakebills Academy who believes the school should remain an exclusive place of learning.

First Year[]

Andy Tucker was invited to attend the Brakebills Entrance Exam to test his aptitude for magic, where he passed and was accepted for enrollment. During his first year at Brakebills, Tucker met and befriended students Brian Lee, Sophie Carlson, and Scott Vincent, the later of whom was expelled after summoning a demon that killed two students before Dean Henry Fogg and Professor March could banish it.[1]

Tucker and several other students were gathered by Dean Fogg for an announcement on the Sea, where he revealed that Brakebills, after centuries of seclusion from the mundane world, was hiring Professor Keshawn Warren as its first Hedge Magic instructor as well as accepting three of Professor Warren's students, Audrey Flowers, Emily Marks, and Pat Masterson, who would be joining as Third-year students due to their level of knowledge and mastery of magic. Tuckler later was assigned the class Survey of World Magical Traditions, despite not having registered for the course, where he met with Lee and Carlson. Lee commented that he didn't think Hedge Magic interested Tucker, who agreed, regarding the practice as hippy magic as the new students arrived.[2]

Magician: Andy Tucker is a classically-trained student at Brakebills University, where he is learning the fundamentals of magical theory and possesses a high degree of mastery over its forces. His Discipline specializes in high-energy tensors in quantum-magical mechanics.

  • Magic Manipulation: Tucker is able to shape and manipulate magic, forming tangible constructs of energy, such as tools and weapons, as well as cast spells by writing specific formations with his hands. He demonstrated the ability to craft shovels from magic for himself and four other students to bury the body of Sophie Carlson. He was later able to harmonize the energy of the Proving Ground to conceal any trace of magic in the area.
    • Fire Manipulation: Tucker was able to cause the candles around the Proving Ground to ignite, lighting up the area.
    • Transmutation: Tucker was able to turn a balloon created by Pat Masterson into a swarm of blue butterflies.
    • Stool Pigeon Spell: Tucker was able to create a stool pigeon to alert him of anyone approaching while he and Masterson cleared the Proving Grounds of any trace of their spells.
