"Travelers' training wheels. Your body stays here; your mind travels. It's like being a ghost. Meditating won't stop you from having a wet dream and waking up in the Marianas Trench. This will."
Stanley[src]

The Anti-Traveling Spell is a sigil used to prevent Travelers from teleporting.

History[]

After accidentally teleporting to Mount Everest, Stanley, a Brakebills alumni, tattooed the spell onto his neck to prevent him from physically Traveling again. Stanley later convinced Victoria Gradley to get the sigil when he mentored her, although Gradley later disfigured it to allow her to Travel to other worlds and was given the sigil again after she was captured by The Beast and imprisoned in the Castle That Isn't There.[1]

Penny Adiyodi had Kady Orloff-Diaz tattoo the sigil onto him due to being unable to control his powers, but it was removed by Professor Mischa Mayakovsky while Adiyodi was at Brakebills South so Mayakovsky could help Adiyodi master his abilities.[1][2]

When Henry Fogg erased the memories of Quentin Coldwater and his friends, he placed the sigil on Penny Adiyodi to prevent his new identity from Traveling, but this was removed by Marina Andrieski so she could attempt to force Fogg to give up the antidote.[3]

When Penny Adiyodi/Timeline 23 was given a job as Professor at Brakebills University, he told his Traveler students to forget about Traveling and get the anti-Traveling spell tattooed on themselves.[4]
