"Do you remember the gift that Jane was given in the book The Girl Who Told Time?"
"Uh, yeah, Ember gave her a watch and a locket."
"Ember gave her the ability to fuck with time on a cosmic scale, and Jane used it to create a time loop. When she'd fail to stop The Beast, she'd restart the loop.

Jane Chatwin's Pocket Watch was a magical watch made by the Dwarves in Fillory for Ember. It held powerful magic that allows it user the capability to time travel and create different timelines.

The pocket watch was first crafted and given to Jane so she could battle the Beast. With it, she created time loops to reset her timeline to find a way to win. There have been 40 known timelines created with the Pocket Watch.[1] Additionally, the watch was used to create and sustain Jane's Clock Barrens where all of time exists at once, and therefore, allowing her to exist outside of time even after her death on the linear plane. It can also be noted that by the use of this time circle where time doesn't pass, Jane Chatwin still has access to magic. Through some unknown means, the watch was also used by Henry Fogg to release everyone from Martin Chatwin's Paralysis Spell.[2]

It was revealed that the Time Key was used to empower the watch and enable it manipulate time.[3]
