Spectres are spirits that inhabit the Wandering Desert on Fillory.

Southern Nomads[]
Spectres were spirits that lived in the Wandering Desert and were summoned when a woman was in distress, to help her in the task she needed. The Southern Nomads, a tribe that lived in this desert, misunderstood these spirits, thinking they possessed women to paralyse them. This misconception was created by the men of tribe, mainly their leader, who created axes that were able to disembody the spirits. After Margo's visit to the desert, where she was showed the true nature of the spectres, the nomad women started to use the spirits in their advantage.[1]
