Van der Weghe speaks with Julia Wicker

Following her examination, Julia Wicker was brought to Professor Van der Weghe, who explained that she had failed the exam and he was preparing to send her home with an alibi for her time. Turning his back for a moment to sanitize his hands, Van der Weghe used a memory spell to make Wicker forget her time at Brakebills before sending her back to her apartment in New York City.

Attack on Brakebills University

During a lecture on the interaction of metals and magic during spellcraft, Professor Van der Weghe advised students to pay attention to the alloy metals used, explaining that while iron was safe due its neutral quality, gold and silver magnify magical effects. As he continued his lecture, Van der Weghe began quoting a Germanic poetry excerpt when he and his students fell under the effect of a paralysis spell.

Shortly afterwards, a man in a suit stepped through the class' mirror and began walking among the students. As he explored the room, he used a spell to kill the paralyzed Van der Weghe, causing his body to drop to the floor. After the entity was scared off by the students, Van der Weghe's body was removed from the scene of the incursion while Professor Pearl Sunderland began questioning the students on the incident.
