The Magicians Wiki

William Plover was the father of Christopher and Prudence Plover and the husband of Mary Plover.

Biography[]

William Plover had come from a meager upbringing and exited the school system at a young age to work in a prominent Chicago fabric wholesale business, which he later came to own. Plover later met and married Mary Plover before the two had their first child, Christopher, on February 14th, 1885. He later ensured that his son never wanted for reading material and introduced Christopher to a range of classics, including imported stories from England, such as William Morris' Well at the End of the World, and The Princess and the Goblin.

By the early 1920s, William had fallen into ill health and declined rapidly, leaving his business in his son's hands before he later died.[1]

Personality[]

In letters from Christopher Plover, William was noted as a harsh disciplinarian and difficult to please. While their relationship was never wholly abusive, it left the younger Plover craving attention, and had a lasting impact on his life.
